We are sliding into the waning days of the 119th Congress, with only around 30 days left in the legislative calendar for the House of Representatives and about 40 days left for the Senate before the election. This therefore seems as good a time as any to recall why it is that having a national framework for AI regulation is so important. Our Constitution grants Congress the unique right (and, we would argue, sometimes even the responsibility) to regulate interstate commerce.

Alliance for the Future (AFTF) applauds President Donald J. Trump for his national AI framework announced today. It is a serious effort to protect the public from real harms, not speculative or imaginary ones, while still preserving the conditions that allow American innovation in AI to thrive. We are especially encouraged that the framework provides a positive, forward-looking vision for AI policy, and one that continues to move the conversation away from those who fear the future, and toward practical, pro-innovation policies that support builders, creators, and the public.

Artificial intelligence is a product of human creativity and ingenuity. It reflects humanity’s enduring drive to discover, invent, and expand the frontier of knowledge. Like the great technological advances that came before it, AI has the potential to transform the human condition by unlocking new knowledge, expanding opportunity, and accelerating solutions to problems that have long constrained human progress. Throughout history, technological progress has been one of the most powerful forces for improving human life.
